David Wiessler, 72, a wire service journalist who served as Washington bureau chief at the United Press International from 1985 to 1993 and retired in 2009 as a political editor and writer for Reuters, died Feb. 14, 2015, at a hospital in Bethesda. The cause was renal failure, said a niece, Cynthia Wegel.
Mr. Wiessler, a Washington resident, was born in Cambridge, Mass., and raised in Allentown, Pa. He worked for UPI from 1966 to 1993, initially in Dallas before arriving in Washington in the early 1970s. In the early 1980s, he had a brief stint with U.S. News and World Report magazine.
