More Brief Memories of Henry Shapiro

Here are some memories of Shapiro as captured by the late Dick Harnett of San Francisco, founder of the Downhold listserv:

Henry Stayed on the Payroll

Henry Shapiro, dean of foreign correspondents in Moscow for many years, retired in the 1970s to Madison, Wis. to teach at the University of Wisconsin.

Mims Thomason, president of UPI, kept Shapiro on full pay for a year after he retired with the understanding that Shapiro would write a book for UP about his career.

The book was never written.
